Support for School Enrolment Programme

The “Support for School Enrolment Programme”, run with the financial support of the European Union and collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), contributes to raising schooling rates of Syrian children and improving their access to formal and non-formal education opportunities.

In the programme, where the identification, assessment and follow-up of 5-17 year old boy and girls are performed, it is aimed to include children at very young ages in formal or non-formal education programs that are suitable for their age and to reduce school dropout rates. It is also aimed to reduce school dropout rates by providing information and referral to families.

Field works are conducted throughout the programme in Adana, Bursa, Gaziantep, Istanbul, Izmir, Konya, Mersin and Şanlıurfa for around 30.000 asylum seeker and refugee children who are out-of-school, cannot continue school or carry the risk of dropping out of school.

The programme is implemented in collaboration with relevant institutions and organizations, namely the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of National Education and Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Youth and Sports; works are conducted together with mobile teams to include out-of-school children or children carrying the risk of not continuing school in education. The mobile teams carry out field surveys to identify children according to their levels of risk and inform their families about education opportunities and other available social assistance. Therefore, support is provided to enable children to access education without any difficulties through the “Accelerated Learning Programme” and referrals to Turkish courses. In addition, awareness raising activities are organized for children and their families regarding issues like access to education opportunities.

It is aimed to organize briefing meetings with local institutions and organizations in the project provinces of the programme.
