This year, the 28 th edition of the Flying Broom International Women\u2019s Film Festival opened witha ceremony at the Ankara State Opera and Ballet Hall. With ASAM as its main sponsor, thefestival aims to make the efforts of women more visible and support their creative contributionsto cinema. <\/p>\n\n
The opening ceremony was attended by directors Ece Dizdar, Ceylan \u00d6zg\u00fcn \u00d6z\u00e7elik, Biket\u0130lhan, and Eylem Kaftan; actresses Lale Mansur and Buket Kara; producer Zeynep Atakan;representatives from various non-governmental organizations; and film enthusiasts.<\/p>\n\n<\/figure>\n\n
The President of Ankara City Council Halil \u0130brahim Y\u0131lmaz, Deputy Mayors of Etimesgut and\u00c7ankaya, and ASAM Executive Director \u0130brahim Vurgun Kavlak were presented with plaques ofappreciation.<\/p>\n\n
\u201cWe strive to ensure that women are the true protagonists of their own stories.\u201d<\/h2>\n\n
Taking the floor at the ceremony, ASAM Executive Director \u0130brahim Vurgun Kavlak emphasizedthe significance of the Flying Broom Film Festival in terms of women\u2019s struggle. During hisspeech, Kavlak indicated that efforts to empower women and children constitute not only asocial issue, but also a foundation for societal transformation. He expressed, \u201cWe support theeconomic empowerment of women, their access to their rights free of barriers, and their pursuitof a life free from violence. In all our efforts, we strive to ensure that women are not onlynarrators, but the true protagonists of their own stories.\u201d <\/p>\n\n
During the ceremony, the Honorary Award, the Bilge Olga\u00e7 Achievement Awards, the YoungWitch Award, the Achievement Award, and plaques of appreciation were presented to theirrecipients. During the evening, the SesVerSus a Capella group gave a special performance onstage, captivating the audience with their songs. <\/p>\n\n
Award Support for Woman Across the Film Industry<\/h2>\n\n<\/figure>\n\n
The Young Witch Award was presented to young actress Mina Demirta\u015f.<\/p>\n\n
The Bilge Olga\u00e7 Achievement Awards were presented to Ba\u015fak Emre and Harika Uygur inrecognition of their dedication to cinema.<\/p>\n\n<\/figure>\n\n
The Achievement Award was presented to actress Bennu Y\u0131ld\u0131r\u0131mlar.<\/p>\n\n
The Honorary Awards were presented to the renowned cinema figures G\u00fcl\u015fen Bubiko\u011flu andH\u00fclya Darcan. <\/p>\n\n
The festival will continue until June 4, bringing audiences together with the different stories ofwomen in cinema via screenings, discussions, and events.<\/p>\n\n
