Mental Health & Psycho-Social Support (MHPSS) to Earthquake Survivors

Implemented in collaboration with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), the “ASAM: Mental Health & Psycho-Social Support (MHPSS) to Earthquake Survivors Project” aims to improve the psychosocial wellbeing of earthquake survivors and mitigate further psychosocial risks.

Among the Project’s main objectives is to provide integrative mental health and psychosocial support services to everyone suffering from the earthquake, especially persons rescued from the wreckage and those who have experienced loss of loved ones or injury of family members following the earthquakes that hit the Southeastern provinces of Türkiye.

In the scope of the Project, psychologists and youth workers are present in the Child and Woman Friendly Spaces formed in Hatay and Kahramanmaraş for meeting the needs of children and women. Assisting the healthy recovery from the psychological impacts of natural disasters, the “Psychological First Aid Activities” conducted as part of the Project aim to reduce the stress levels of individuals affected by disasters and similar traumatic events, improve their coping skills, and strengthening individuals against the impacts of traumatic events.

The Child-Friendly Safe Spaces seek to contribute to the rebuilding of daily life through psychosocial activities, where children have the opportunity to play and to express the hard feelings they are experiencing. Activities for improving children’s psychological resilience and structured psychosocial group activities for making sense of the disaster are also carried out.

The Project also involves the provision of structured awareness-raising sessions for adults and face-to-face support sessions for children and adults who are in need of individual psychological support.
