Based on Global Peace Index figures, the number of persons who lost their lives in conflicts across the world in 2022 doubled when compared to the previous year.

The report of the Institute for Economics and Peace has shown that the wars and conflicts in the 21st century is more destructive than ever before. 91 countries across the globe are currently involved in conflict. The Global Peace Index has constantly been deteriorating for the last 9 years.

On the other hand, global displacement has exceeded its increasing trend over the recent years and has reached a new record level. According to UNHCR’s data, around 110 million people have been forcibly displaced worldwide as a result of persecution, conflict, violence, and human rights violations. This means that 1 in 74 people is forcibly displaced across the world.

The annual economic impact of wars and conflicts is estimated as $17.5 trillion!

On 21 September, the International Day of Peace, ASAM would like to share the UN Secretary-General António Guterres’s message and underline that it works with this consciousness: “Peace is not automatic. Peace is the result of action”.
