We are proud to share with all of Türkiye the final version of the documentary, whose shooting began last year and was completed this year as part of the “Responding to the Needs of the Earthquake Affected Individuals” Project, implemented by ASAM in collaboration with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Mission in Ankara.

The documentary, which will air on NTV on the anniversary of the 17 August earthquake, a cornerstone in Türkiye’s history of natural disasters, was created by renowned documentary filmmaker Coşkun Aral. The 45-minute documentary, with Müge Aral as Producer and Barış Kılınç as Director of Photography, will be the first feature-length production made with the contributions of the Association for Social Development and Aid Mobilization (ASAM).

Through the perspective of those who witnessed the events at the time, the documentary explores the shared history of disasters between the two countries that were struck by devastating earthquakes just a few months apart in 1999, the friendship born from these disasters, and the story of how Taiwan came to be a close neighbor in the Far East.

The documentary also features the first encounter in years between Po-Chun Huang, leader of the Taiwanese team that engaged in search & rescue operations in Türkiye following the 1999 Marmara earthquake, and Assoc. Prof. Ferudun Çelikmen, leader of the AKUT team who rescued a person from the rubble in Taiwan during the 1999 Nantou earthquake.
