The winners of the Press Photos of the Year 2023 competition, organized by the Photojournalists Association of Türkiye (TFMD) for the 38th time this year, received their awards during a ceremony held in Ankara. The most influential photos of the previous year were awarded during the ceremony, attended by representatives from the media, business and art circles, as well as political party representatives. Photos that made the greatest impression in the most prestigious photography awards of the Turkish media were that depicting the war between Russia and Ukraine. During the ceremony, 30 photos and 6 photo series received awards in 8 different categories. The encouragement award, as a tribute to the legendary photojournalist Ara Güler, was granted to Kahraman Kaya from Muş Alparslan University.
In the competition where more than four thousand photos were included, Photojournalist Murat Şaka from Hürriyet Newspaper won the ASAM Special Award with his photo series depicting those fleeing from the capital of Kiev due to the war in Ukraine. Şaka received his award from ASAM General Coordinator İbrahim Vurgun Kavlak.
Murat Şaka’s award-winning photo series is exhibited on the wall found on the third floor of ASAM Main Building.
