Increasing Access of Refugees with Disabilities to Protection Services in Türkiye Project

Implemented through an implementing partnership between the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and ASAM and run with the financial support of ECHO (Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations), the Project aims for refugees with disabilities and their support persons living in Türkiye to be in a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and to have access to social protection services.

The Project objectives also include identification of refugees with disabilities and their support persons, assessment of related protection risks, and raising awareness of refugees with disabilities about gender-based violence, protection, social rights and healthcare services.

In order for refugees with disabilities and their support persons to benefit from the specialized protection services related to their needs, psychosocial support services are provided, necessary referrals are made and hospital attendant support is offered. There are social workers, psychologists, mobile team protection assistants, interpreters, and support staff among the Project team members.

Capacity building, awareness raising and coordination activities are carried out for service unit personnel, public and non-governmental organizations providing services to refugees and caregivers with disabilities in Ankara and Izmir, which are the implementation provinces of the project. İzmir activities of the project are carried out in Konak Disabled Service Center in cooperation with İzmir Metropolitan Municipality and SGDD-ASAM, while Ankara activities are carried out at SGDD-ASAM Ankara Community Center.

In scope of these activities, drawing up of an Implementation Guideline to set the operating principles of Service Units is also among the Project objectives.

Under the Project, it is further planned to establish Committees of Persons with Disabilities so as to provide feedback on services to be offered at the centers and to meet the needs of activities to be planned.
