The winners of the 2024 Press Photos of the Year Awards, organized by the Photojournalists Association of Türkiye, received their awards during a ceremony hosted by the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (TBMM). The Presenter of the ceremony was ASAM Corporate Communications Unit Coordinator Murat Barış Koralp.

Photojournalist Uğur Yıldırım from Milliyet Newspaper marked significant achievements in the competition. He came in first place in the “Earthquake Series Photography of the Year” and “Nature and Environmental Photography of the Year” categories. Yıldırım also won the Association for Social Development and Aid Mobilization (ASAM) Special Award with the photograph he took in Hatay.

Mourning and Hope

Depicting mourning and hope together by photographing the couple who got married in Hatay with a wedding ceremony among the ruins with no music 142 days after the earthquake, Uğur Yıldırım received his award from ASAM Executive Director İbrahim Vurgun Kavlak.

Press Photos of the Year

The Press Photos of the Year competition, which continues to be held since 1985 by the Photojournalists Association of Türkiye, is a leading event organized in the field of press photography in Türkiye. This competition is among the most prestigious awards of the Turkish media and the shots awarded have an importance place in the visual history of Türkiye.

The awarded photographs reach large audiences and are carried on to the future in a permanent manner through the printed works.
