I’m going to cure everyone’s family

Rayan, who came from Aleppo to Türkiye with her family at the age of 7 to get away from the destruction caused by the war, is now constructing her life with hope. Rayan, who is currently a high school student, is spending most of her time on studying so that she can attain her dreams.

Dreaming of studying in university to become a self-sustaining individual and someone who can travel whenever she pleases, Rayan notes that she also enjoys going to school since she does not feel lonely. Education has another meaning for Rayan. Losing her father in the war, Rayan states, “I want to be a doctor when I grow up. There was no doctor available to treat my father. I’m going to cure everyone’s family. No one will lose their father”.

“I would have wanted to be understood”

Rayan has a growing curiosity towards the lives of others. She states that she satisfies her curiosity by what she learns in the books she reads with her best friend Aslı. Expressing that she learned to look at life from alternative windows with the help of books, Rayan says that this way, she understands what other people are feeling. 16-year-old Rayan, who complains about people not understanding her sometimes, conveys, “Judging people without understanding them may break their hearts, but I can empathize thanks to the books”.

“I feel very precious at ASAM Ankara Al Farah Child and Family Support Center”

Rayan came across ASAM while she was pursuing her hobbies that make her happy. Noting that she very much enjoys visiting ASAM Ankara Al Farah Child and Family Support Center, Rayan says, “Everyone here is very understanding and sensitive towards me. I feel very precious”.

By attending violin and guitar courses at Al Farah Child and Family Support Center, Rayan not only enlivens her life, but also contributes to her social development through the friendships she established there. Rayan, who expresses, “There are songs that describe me, I usually play those songs when I feel sad”, is glad to be in the magical world of musical notes.

“I exist. I can’t act like I don’t”

Realizing that she got to know herself in 2023, Rayan came to an understanding that everything she enjoys doing has shaped her existence. Conveying that she feels responsible towards every vulnerable living creature, Rayan states, “I experienced this vulnerability. We must be more understanding and tolerant towards one another”. Rayan’s expectation from 2024 is having a piano and a gigantic bookshelf that will open the doors to new worlds.
