Al Farah Child and Family Support Centers for Refugee Children Project

With the “Al Farah Child and Family Support Centers for Refugee Children Project”, which was launched in 2016 with the collaboration of the United Nations Children’s Fund, protection services are offered to asylum seeker children, adolescents and their families, and child friendly activities are carried out by making the necessary referrals for children to develop most efficiently.

The “Al Farah Child and Family Support Centers”, established in the scope of the Project, offer integrated services to vulnerable asylum seeker children, adolescents and their families to strengthen them emotionally, promote social cohesion, and to enable them to acquire the knowledge and skills that are necessary in daily life. In that regard, centers that promote national and local child protection systems play a significant role in identifying the emergency protection needs of the most vulnerable asylum seeker children, who are difficult to reach, and in managing and referring them.

In addition to these centers, services are also offered at Bursa, Kayseri (the coverage of which includes the provinces of Nevşehir, Kırşehir and Niğde), Mersin and Van Field Offices to beneficiaries under the age 18 that include needs and situation assessment, protection and psychosocial support activities.

Furthermore, the project team working in field offices at border regions reaches and provides support to children irregularly migrating in Balıkesir, Çanakkale, and Muğla. Additionally, the Mediterranean Region Outreach Team in Antalya organizes various activities for children and women in the region.

Under the Project, services are offered at municipality buildings by interpreters and case workers in collaboration with the Adana Metropolitan Municipality, Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality and Istanbul/Avcılar Municipality, while 3 mobile counselling vehicles also continue to offer services at neighborhoods with a large asylum seeker population who are unable to reach the offices.
